Menopause remedies?

Does anyone have any tips for dry skin issues - special cosmetics that work - or other remedies for post menopausal concerns?

A poem of hope by Ginny

Sleds, bats, balls, water guns

lay dormant now.

Dolls, books, and dresses

left behind;

deserted treasures from a bygone time.

As newborn robins they must take flight,

to soar yet stumbling along the way.

Whilst anxious mothers watch and pray.

So quickly the years have flown by.

Do I recall wishing it so?

Yet new days dawn with hope afresh.

The Father who loved them, loves them still.

Be anxious for nothing; He is there.

Mothers prayers are not unheard.

Come before Him to find mercy and grace.

God is with you; you are not alone.

"Be anxious for nothing, but in everything with prayer and supplication make your requests known to God. And the peace of God which surpasses understanding will guard your heart and mind in Christ Jesus." Philipians 4:6-7.

"An anxious heart weighs a man down, but a kind word cheers him up." Proverbs 12:25

Weeds and sand overtaking a patio?

Over the past few years I have been getting estimates and ideas of how to fix a 20 year old patio that has been overrun with weeds, sand, and small ants who have taken residence there. I have had suggestions from just putting a deck over it to replacing the whole thing. Estimates have ranged from $3000 to $5400.

I don't want to do a deck because of the maintenance required with anything wood. The teck decks are too expensive and tend to mildew according to my sister-in-law. I just want a nice patio that doesn't require much maintenance.

Recently I obtained two estimates that were more in my ballpark. One company is willing to redo the entire patio with the existing pavers for $2200 which is the best offer yet. I'm calling him today and will let you know the results.

What is your vulnerability to stress?

This is a quick assessment of your potential stressors which was administered by a Community Health RN from a local hospital.
I showed it to family and friends and find that the answers are more telling than the score itself.
For instance, my kids and I scored low on #3 which is an indicator that showing affection is an area that needs work.
Sorry about the small font. I tried several times to make it larger. May I suggest a magnifier?

Replace garage door or prime and paint?

The wood around my garage door and back French door are rotting, and I recently contracted with a well respected professional carpenter at my church to replace the rotting wood with something that resembles wood but is called PVC (I think). He charges $25.00 per hour plus materials. He also replaced a wood panel that was rotten on my garage door. I am in the process of priming and painting the garage door and some wood on the front of the house to improve the curb appeal. He says to prime and paint the PVC as well or it may turn yellow over time.

The cost of a new garage door would have been about $1000 which would not have included replacing the rotted wood frame.

Where to put all the junk?

I recently disposed of some junk that had been annoying me for some time. The junk consisted of an old console tv that wouldn't sell on ebay for $1.00, a basketball net and pole with the concrete base still attached, an old lawn mower that would not work despite my best efforts, three tires, old golf bags etc...

With no truck or even a van at my disposal, I called many local companies with prices ranging from $50 for first two items and $10 per item thereafter to $175 per truckload. I even called home depot whose trucks you apparently cannot rent to go to the dump and finally Enterprise truck rental which rents for $65 per day plus gas.

Finally when I was beginning to think it would be impossible at an affordable price, I came across Wasteaway Hauling on a google search. They were able to pick everything up the next morning for the low price of $60, and since I wasn't home they picked up the check in the mailbox.

My garage and I are feeling quite unencumbered and grateful!
